Dugo Ko, Buhay Mo: A Love Month Bloodletting Activity
Centuries ago, bloodletting was the conventional medication for various conditions; from plague and smallpox to epilepsy and gout. At some point in history, it became beneficial to women who were giving birth, especially in the 18th century. It remained a standard therapy for a very small number of conditions. Today, people are voluntarily donating their own blood to save countless lives.
Three years ago, Davao Ros-Ver or New Pag-Asa Pawnshop, with the Philippine National Red Cross in coordination with the Department of Health, conducted a bloodletting activity which was held at Ilustre Branch in which 60 donors donated. After that successful event, bloodletting became an advocacy to every officer and employee of the company. As a result, this advocacy led to a successive bi-annual bloodletting activity and the number of donors for every activity grew up to 100%. The willingness of these officers and employees to help the community was genuinely inspiring and heartwarming.
Today, the Philippine National Red Cross in coordination with the Department of Health (once again) partnered with Davao Ros-Ver/ new Pag-Asa Pawnshop to conduct the first of this bi-annual bloodletting activity for the year 2020. It was held in Ilustre Branch and, more or less, 100 donors volunteered to donate blood.
Since then, Davao Ros-Ver/ New Pag-Asa Pawnshop helps the community, not just, lending immediate financial assistance but also helping to save lives through bloodletting.
